This as-told-to story is based on a Q&A with Bridgette Nyahunzvi, a Zimbabwean image consultant based in South Africa. It has been edited for clarity and length.
How it all started
My journey into image consulting began with a deep love for fashion and a desire to show others how their personal image can positively influence every area of life. It all started quite organically when I began sharing my work outfit posts on Instagram. Over time, I built a community of fashion lovers who connected with my style.
Women started reaching out, asking me to style them and help with their shopping. That’s when I realised I had a natural gift for styling and a true passion for helping others look and feel their best.

To refine my skills, I pursued formal training in image consulting, which gave me a deeper understanding of the industry and how to serve clients in a meaningful, professional way. In 2018, I officially launched Lush Image Consulting, and since then, the business has been growing and evolving continuously.
A turning point during the pandemic
A major turning point came during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, when I invested in further training for virtual consultations. That shift allowed me to serve clients globally and not just face-to-face.
I worked with women from different countries and learned the importance of adapting to change and embracing new ways to connect with people.
Building a digital presence
Alongside this, I’ve built a strong digital presence that has played a critical role in my growth — with more than 40,000 Instagram followers, over 3,000 YouTube subscribers, around 6,000 Facebook followers, and a growing audience on Pinterest.
These platforms have allowed me to share styling tips, timeless fashion inspiration, and insights on personal image with women all over the world. Through social media, I’ve been able to create a community of women who support each other, engage with content, and take actionable steps to improve their confidence and style.

Beyond social media, I’ve had the privilege of speaking at ISMA, 1Life, and Clientele Insurance, where I empower professionals to embrace the power of image and confidence.
Marketing through content
Social media has been the biggest tool for marketing my business. Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and Facebook allow me to showcase my personal style, share practical tips, and connect directly with women who are looking for guidance.
Content creation — whether through YouTube styling videos, Instagram posts, or blog-style captions — has not only helped me reach new clients but has also positioned me as a thought leader in the style and image space. I try to ensure that everything I share genuinely serves my audience, whether that’s solving a problem, offering inspiration, or simply helping someone feel more confident in their style.
Challenges and lessons learned
Of course, the path hasn’t always been smooth. One of my biggest challenges has been balancing creativity with the business side of things. It’s easy to get caught up in the fun of creating content, styling clients, and sharing ideas online, but behind the scenes, there’s planning, strategy, and sometimes self-doubt.
“Image consulting is much more than just clothes — it’s about confidence, personal branding, and transformation.”
Another challenge has been educating people that image consulting is much more than just clothes. Helping people understand this has taught me to use storytelling and content creation to break down misconceptions and show the full value of what I do.
Advice for those starting out
When I think about advice for others starting out, my message is simple: focus on creating content that truly offers value. Content should serve others, inspire them, or solve a problem they face. Consistency and authenticity are key, but what really sets you apart is being different and staying true to your unique voice.
“Focus on impact over numbers. When you genuinely serve your audience, the right people will naturally connect with your message.”
For those who want to become image consultants, I strongly urge getting formal training. Professional knowledge ensures you can offer real value, build trust, and make a meaningful impact in your clients’ lives.
Looking ahead
Looking ahead, I want to expand Lush Image Consulting into more corporate spaces by offering workshops and speaking engagements that empower professionals to use their image as a tool for success. I’m also excited about growing my YouTube channel and collaborating with fashion and lifestyle brands that align with my philosophy of timeless style.
“I want every woman I work with to feel empowered, capable, and unapologetically herself.”
Ultimately, I see my work reaching beyond fashion to influence how women view themselves and step confidently into every space they occupy.
A Journey of transformation
This journey has been one of learning, growth, and constant adaptation. From posting outfit photos on Instagram to speaking at corporate events and connecting with women across the globe, I’ve realised that image consulting is not just a profession — it’s a way to positively transform lives.

I feel grateful for every client, every follower, and every opportunity that has come my way, and I look forward to continuing this journey, helping women everywhere step boldly into their best selves.
